Floorwork:

Description: In Egpyt, floorwork as a part of Oriental dance was banned and officially outlawed twice, before it found it’s way up through old traditional egyptian dances and also dances of Old Turkey, North-African tribes and Romani dances. In a big boom of Oriental dance in America, floorwork was a symbol of Vintage Belly Dance industry, combined with elements of burlesque and modern fusions.

Floorwork shows dancer’s flexibility, control of the movements and strenght. It is often performed with props such as swords or candelabrum, because, when balanced, they emphasize slowness and restraint of movements, and that shows us both sensuality and the force of this dance.

At the workshop ‘Rebirth’, as the name suggests, we will pass through the ‘rebirth’ of the movements. All dance movements will be carried out on the ground, for what will be necessary to gain control over your body and strength, particularly in terms of flexibility and our body’s back area.

But the floorwork isn’t only for those who are extremely flexible, floorwork is for those who want to wake up that special sensuality in movements. In this eccentric type of belly dance the whole body is involved, and each shift and pose are of explicit importance. Special emphasis is on slow and controlled movements of the abdomen and soft but pronounced accents of the hips .

Accept the challenge and come with me on a journey in time and place. There, where dance was born. From the earth to the sky!

Dorotea Kovačićek, I was born 1.7.1992 . in Zagreb, Croatia. I learned how to dance and how to love dance itselft through the school of Oriental dance “Plesni Studio Nefertiti’ which nurtures a variety of styles and fusions. I’ve been dancing as a part of Nefertiti troup for 5 years and I currently teach groups of middle and young professional level. What I especially I are Oriental styles that come to the fore contrary: femininity on the one hand and stregnth on the other .
